About

The Texas Outside Money Index measures how much of the money a Texas candidate, officeholder, or committee raised came from outside Texas, and it applies the same rule to everyone, from the same public record.

One rule for everyone

The calculation is fixed and public. Party, office, and political alignment do not change a result. Every covered filer is measured the same way, and results are published regardless of whom they help or hurt.

Data and privacy

The index is built from public campaign-finance records. It does not build a searchable index of private individual donors, and it does not publish contributor contact information. Modeled figures are labeled as modeled, and money that cannot be traced is shown as unresolved rather than guessed.

Corrections

Every profile links to the filings behind it and carries a path to challenge a number. See the corrections page.

Who publishes this

The Texas Nationalist Movement publishes the index. It starts from a plain position, that Texas elections should be decided by Texans. The measurement applies the same rule to every filer, whatever their party, and each number lands where the public record puts it. A funding disclosure and a contact address will be posted before public launch.
